Communication Systems


The Electronic Engineer II position will be required to support System Operations.


  • Work with Workload Coordinator to facilitate new work requests.

  • Support System Operations in the development of projects.

  • Work with Planning, Design, and Construction to understand their needs in developing and completing projects.

  • Test and develop procedures to publish for compliance.

  • Provide clear documentation for training purposes, after projects are completed.

  • Report all project status updates to the Workload Coordinator, including the reporting when job assignments are complete.

  • Support System Operations in Technical Work Groups, such as Equipment Specifications, Maintenance Standards & Procedures, New Systems / Equipment Evaluation.

  • Attend and communicate information from Technical Work groups to Team Lead in order to coordinate a group strategy.

  • Work safely and demonstrate safety awareness practices to insure good environmental stewardship.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics or Telecom Engineering

  • Minimum of 5-9 years of knowledge of engineering concepts, principals, and practices applicable to components and facilities found on a regional transmission system.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products, such as Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook, including Microsoft Office 2010.

Skill Requirements:

  • The systems encountered in this position are analog and digital communication systems that monitor and control devices from the Control Centers. Following are some of the different types of equipment that are part of Power System Control’s jurisdiction. Familiarity and experience with these systems is preferred:

  • Cisco Works – System which manages routers and switches through the Network Management System (NMS).

  • Telenium System – A replacement project for the old Badger RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) system which monitors analog microwave radios.

  • NetBoss management system – An old Harris application which runs on a Solaris 10 operating system that monitors all digital devices on the NMS.

  • Cisco 15454 ONS – A SONET system which uses fiber optics to build digital rings on an OC-48 system.

  • Avaya Telephone System

  • SCADA, AGC, and telemetry systems – Systems which support day-to-day communication operations.

  • Digital Cross Connects and channel banks – Equipment used to integrate circuits onto the operational system.

  • Experience working with or in an Enterprise Communication System

  • Analog/digital radio

  • Microwave communication system

  • Fiber optic communications

  • Network operations center experience

  • Communication system design

  • Operation and maintenance of communication systems
